Possible Popularising Science projects

In collaboration with Alison Campbell at Waikato University (http://sci.waikato.ac.nz/bioblog/).  Alison has some suggestions for really interesting and topical Masters projects around the role of science communication in the perception of science and scientists.

    1. A study of how institutional attempts at science “outreach” (festivals, café scientifique, school programmes, roadshows etc) actually affect perceptions about science in the community.

    2. A study of the role of science communication in the understanding of evolution (as opposed to intelligent design and creationism) in the community.

    3. A study of scientists attitudes to engagement in political and public debate - ie. why are scientists regarded as hiding in ivory towers?
