Possible Popularising Science projects

  1. Science and Scientists

Alison Campbell is a science communicator at Waikato University. She has won the NZ Assoc Scientists award for science communication.  You can find out about her at http://sci.waikato.ac.nz/bioblog/.  Alison has some suggestions for really interesting and topical Masters projects around the role of science communication in the perception of science and scientists.

      • A study of how institutional attempts at science “outreach” (festivals, café scientifique, school programmes, roadshows etc) actually affect perceptions about science in the community.
      • A study of the role of science communication in the understanding of evolution (as opposed to intelligent design and creationism) in the community.
      • A study of scientists' attitudes to engagement in political and public debate - ie. why are scientists regarded as hiding in ivory towers?
